Blue Oyster Hotel is located in the village of Jambiani on the southeast coast of Zanzibar.
This traditional Swahili hotel stands out from the crowd largely thanks to the warmth and efficiency of its German owners.
The small garden contains a boat-shaped bar and plenty of sunloungers above a sandy beach. The main building has a reception downstairs and a very pleasant restaurant above. The twelve standard rooms are arranged in three blocks of four, whilst a handful of lower cost rooms are arranged around a courtyard behind reception.
As well as offering various excursions around the island, guests can take a local fishing boat out onto the lagoon for snorkelling and fishing. There is also a dive school on site.
Blue Oyster Hotel is a modest and stylish hotel, offering perhaps one of the very best and most authentic in-the-village options and great value for money. The only real compromise is the fact that there is no pool.
